Dr. Adv. Moshe Shekel was born in Haifa. He earned his LL.B. degree from the Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University in 1985 and began his LL.M. studies that same year. During and after his studies, he served as a research assistant, teaching assistant and lecturer at Tel Aviv University.
From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Shekel studied at Brunel University in London where he completed his doctoral research on “Recognition of Income from Deposits and Advance Payments for Tax Purposes.”
He played a pivotal role in establishing several significant precedents that shaped the landscape of tax law in Israel. Known for his unique personality, Dr. Shekel took part on pro bono cases that were close to his heart, including the famous Vered Perry case, which resulted in a landmark victory in the Israeli Supreme Court, ruling that childcare expenses are tax- deductible.
Throughout his life, Dr. Shekel published numerous books, studies, and articles that received acclaim from academics and legal professionals worldwide. His last book, “Supernatural Tax – Taxation of Oil and Natural Gas,” published in 2017, presents an in-depth, comprehensive, and innovative analysis of the fiscal aspects of natural resource activity in Israel.
